The Magellanic penguin, scientifically known as Spheniscus magellanicus, is a medium-sized species of penguin native to South America, commonly found along the coasts of Argentina, Chile, and the Falkland Islands. Adults range from 61 to 76 cm in height and weigh between 2.7 to 6.5 kg, with males typically being larger than females. Their distinctive appearance includes a black back and a white abdomen, with two black bands between the head and the breast, and a white-bordered black head. These penguins have a lifespan of up to 25 years in the wild and can live even longer in captivity. They are excellent swimmers, using their rigid wings to move underwater, and they primarily feed on small fish, squid, and krill.
